Four preservation methods to prevent rubber flexible joints from softening

Rubber flexible connectors are prone to aging, a well-known problem. To avoid this, proper storage is crucial. Correct storage methods can significantly extend their lifespan, reducing the need for frequent replacements.

 

1. For storage, place them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and keep them away from strong acids and alkalis.

 

2. When not in use, apply a small amount of talcum powder to the surface of the rubber flexible connector. The white powder on newly purchased balloon bags and hair ties is talcum powder. Talc is readily available, economical, convenient, and very effective.

 

3. Avoid direct sunlight during use of rubber flexible joints. Prolonged stretching or contraction can cause plastic deformation, leading to the breakage of internal cross-links and affecting the mechanical and physical properties of the rubber joint, potentially causing sudden tearing under stress concentration. When using acid- and alkali-resistant or corrosion-resistant rubber flexible joints, try to use a single medium, especially in chemical plants. Our company's rubber flexible joints have a certain degree of corrosion resistance, but highly corrosive pipelines require PTFE lining to increase their service life. The temperature resistance of any type of rubber flexible joint is approximately -20℃ to 120℃; it cannot be used in extreme environments. When burying rubber flexible joints underground, install an explosion-proof device to prevent crushing. During installation, avoid contact between the sphere and sharp objects or welding slag to prevent damage to the sphere surface.

 

 

4.Although rubber flexible joints are made from low-temperature resistant rubber, their flexibility is still somewhat reduced compared to normal seasons. The wear coefficient of the mechanical parts in rubber flexible joints increases dramatically below -10 degrees Celsius.

Therefore, our technical staff recommends adjusting the maintenance cycle of rubber flexible joints appropriately. Winter is an extremely cold season, and heating is required in major cities. In northern China, heating is mainly coal-fired, while in large cities, centralized heating is generally used. Large boiler equipment and pipelines often use rubber flexible joints. The flue gas produced by these systems needs desulfurization to meet my country's emission standards. Therefore, flue gas desulfurization equipment operates at almost full load in winter. The currently mature production method for flue gas desulfurization is lime slurry wet desulfurization. When the material of the main component, the rubber flexible joint, hardens or becomes brittle, care must be taken to ensure that the smooth inner wall of the rubber flexible joint guarantees the smooth passage of the medium during operation.
